Hey everyone, thanks for the asks and likes lately. Been a little quiet because of some personal things, but there’s more coming soon.
Works-in-progress for the Acid & Lightning weapons. They go to test sprites from concept drawings and write-up details.
Visuals typically come after the rough implementation, which is played with in stages and in various encounters.
Many design concepts are put onto paper or drawn up directly on screen. This helps communicate the behavior across different work schedules to artists and one-another.

Yet I still have a question: is the story already written and finished?
The story has a good draft done, with the dialogue being worked on. There are some major points to figure out details for, but the overall storyline is set.

We have a few great candidates who have been interested, but not much has been made yet. Some old pals from MLPOnline did some: Hupondroid did some initial test tracks, and Maravex has produced a few for demos.

Underpable does awesome concept artwork. We’re glad to have him on board. Salty (our developer) especially loves his work.
The Intro stage in progress.
We’re putting time into making sure that we teach the player how to play the game through gameplay (not tutorials). Invisible zones denote different lessons we’re teaching throughout.
Many stages begin this way – with blue blocks and rough enemy placements. After a couple iterations, we add shapes and colours to denote actual artwork zones and layered objects.
Starting more regular updates, it seems fitting to first begin with where we are towards the game being done. It’s easiest to say that simply, MegaMare X is in Alpha phase development. It has a lot more work ahead, and we will still need more folks to help.
Our panel this year at BABSCon showed off a few cool boss fights and a basic stage select. And while there’s certainly more content in various stages of development, much of the overall experience was incomplete.
So, ever since that panel, we’ve finished the game’s core features and filled in the remaining details so that we can build the content (stages, story scenes, etc) overtop of it. Now we are making good progress, although it has admittedly been a long road to get here.
Our development has had its stalls and some misdirection, but that seems part of the learning process. Our team, Starlight Studios, aren’t game industry professionals (yet!), and we surely have more than a few struggles left before MegaMare X sees completion.
So, when can you play it?
We’ll let you know as soon as we know!

Certainly grander than that. The antagonist is tied into the backstory and the maverick robot masters that are based off the villain characters.
